Padre Pio Hospital – Drapia
The ‘Casa dell’accoglienza’, with the white Bianco Cave stone covering its façades and the two flights of the monumental staircase embracing those arriving in this semi-hidden hollow in the Tropea hills, gives the measure of the grandeur of a project as unique as it is ambitious in its intentions.
The ‘Cittadella di Padre Pio’ is an emerging centre for the treatment of paediatric oncological diseases. A unicum in Italy and probably in Europe in terms of genesis and prospects.
The Citadel is the great dream of Irene Gaeta, spiritual daughter of Padre Pio and founder of the association of disciples of the saint of Pietrelcina.
We are talking about 160,000 square metres on which ten specialised facilities will take shape, with 280 beds and 60 guest rooms.
The project – based on four pillars: science, faith, social and sustainability – is by architect Luciano Messina, a Milanese studio with southern roots.
